Aadhaar is Now Valid ID Proof to Enter Indian Airports

 WHAT IS AADHAAR ?

               Aadhar is a card that contains 12 digit unique identity number. Aadhaar can be obtained by residents of of India. It is issued by the Government of India. Aadhar functions under the planning commission of India. Unique Aadhaar Number contains biomatric as iris scan and fingerprints, and demographic information like date of birth and address and this data is collected by Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a statutory authority established in January 2009 by the government of India under the provisions of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 (“Aadhaar Act 2016”) on 12 July 2016 by the Government of India, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology .

It is not surprising that Aadhaar is the world's largest biometric ID system. World Bank Chief Economist Paul Romer described Aadhaar as "The most sophisticated ID programme in the world" Considered a proof of residence and not a proof of citizenship.

    CAN AADHAR BE USED AS A ID PROOF 


UIDAI states "An Aadhaar number, in physical or electronic form subject to authentication and other conditions, as may be specified by regulations, may be accepted as proof of identity of the Aadhaar number holder for any purpose,” states Section 4(3) of Aadhaar Act, 2016.
  • mAadhaar can be used as an identity proof to enter airports. According to BCAS Circular "In order to ensure that a bonafide passenger is travelling on a valid ticket issued in his/her name as well as to avoid any controversy/argument with the security staff, any of the following photo identity documents shall be carried in original".
  • UIDAI had clarified that downloaded Aadhaar or e-Aadhaar is a valid proof of identity.Aadhar card can be used as a ID Proof in many ways as 'mAadhaar' carries demographic information like name, date of birth, gender and address of a person along with the photograph and is linked with the Aadhaar number.
  • As per Government Circular mAadhaar, developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will now serve as one of the prescribed identity proofs for Rail travel purposes.
